On our drives to and from the nursery, we can’t help but notice the glossy green foliage and pink, to red, to black berries adorning this woodland shrub-tree (10-15’). Its ‘contrasty’ look just seems to stand out more than others, telling us to include it with our offerings. “C-buck” is more commonly found in alkaline bottomlands, but also occurs in acidic soils. Its natural range extends into the southern portions of Illinois, and West into Nebraska, so it should do fine to at least zone 5b. No, it doesn’t have thorns, and no, it isn’t invasive like its non-native cousins. You will love this simple, yet elegant plant…we sure do!
