If we took a nationwide poll of deer enthusiasts and asked which oak has provided more successful hunts than any other, white oak would undoubtedly be on the top of the list. Found from the Gulf Coast all the way up and into Canada on a variety of site types, the true white oak is known for its timber quality and wildlife value. In our neck of the woods, the medium to large sized, fairly low tannin acorns begin their descent in mid October and can provide a quality, easy meal for deer and other critters through November on good years.

We have spent a great deal of time and effort on this species to provide the public with seedlings from parent trees that exhibit traits land managers and our target quarry prefer. White oak trees and their acorns are extremely variable in quality, and we go the extra mile to provide seedlings from about twenty parent trees (out of more than we care to count) in hopes of passing on genetics that wildlife enthusiasts prefer. Any moderate to well drained upland or bottomland soil with an acid to neutral pH (our parent trees soil’s range from 4.8-7.0) should be a welcome home to our white oaks.
